Basic Starter Guide to Packaging

Basic Starter Guide to Packaging

Have you got a product that you need to send out to a customer? Here are five quick tips on how to make it all a little bit more manageable.

Organise a Defined Packaging Area

Everything in the office has its place and the packaging of goods should be no different. A designated, organised area that is big enough to move the products around in with labels to hand and everything else that staff might need to make sure the product leaves the workplace on time. Imagine missing a collection deadline because you ran out of loose packing fill. Now the customer has to wait an additional day.

A workspace should be large enough to have room to move the package around, with all necessary packaging materials in reach. You’ll be amazed by the production time that can be saved by keeping a fully-stocked and organized packaging space.

Get your Measurements

Let’s change up an old proverb slightly: Measure twice and pick the right box once.

Customers are more likely to use your company again if you use environmentally friendly packaging or if you use the right sized packaging. People find it frustrating when they receive a relatively small product in a massive container. It’s bad for the environment and it means the customer has a lot of waste packaging to get rid of. Check out this option: Flat Pack Carton

Protect your Goods

Did you know that bubble wrap is not just for popping? It can also be used to protect your products on transit. This week only, we’ve dropped the price of Jiffy Bubble Wrap, there are loads of cost effective options out there for you, it all depends on what your product and needs are. The most important thing is to make sure a customer does not receive a broken product.

Seal (No not the musician or the animal)

A common mistake with packaging is sealing the actual box. Most people tend to go for duct tape or even clear household tape but we recommend using an adhesive or packaging tape as these will be strong enough to last the whole journey and can help prevent tampering. Tape Options at Low Cost Office.

Label, Tags and Branding

If it’s not clear who it’s going to or has incorrect information for the courier then your product won’t even make it out of the depot. Try not to write out the address. Where possible, print the delivery details and make sure all documents are together. A packaging label with document wallets is so handy for both the customer receiving the goods and the courier service as it cuts down on time looking for said documents

Don’t miss the advertising opportunity that is your package. If putting the logo on the box is an option then why not go for it? The company name will be seen on arrival and is more likely to help repeat business and brand loyalty as the logo and product become interlinked in the customers mind.

So, what do you think of our starter guide? We’ve given some advice and made some product suggestions but only you and your company really know what’s right for you. Just remember to factor in the customer when you are choosing your packaging materials and always keep the environment in mind.
