January Motivation

Success at work often comes down to motivation. There are lots of aspects of your day that can motivate you such as family, leader or co-workers, but there will always be times where you need to call on your own motivations to push through difficult or tedious tasks to be productive and reach your goals.

Here are three powerful ways to motivate yourself at work:

Set Goals

Setting goals gives you direction instead of wandering aimlessly and filling your days with busy work. Start every day by deciding the three to five big things you want to get done that day. If you have a big long term goal in mind then set smaller weekly goals that help you get to that point, smaller goals is a great way to keep track of your annual goal such as a training course or job promotion. You’ll feel an incredible sense of accomplishment, which adds to the motivation to keep going.

Celebrate Every Win

The pull of a future reward can be great motivation to get work done. Take time to reward yourself for your hard work. These rewards can be small, like going on a walk or watching that episode of that thing you like, or larger, like going out Friday night or to spending in the January Sales. Knowing that something enjoyable is waiting for you on the other side of the work motivates and acts as a great reward for getting things done.

Clear Objectives

You’re more likely to feel motivated and productive when you understand the impact of your work. Why are you working on that price sheet or cleaning out the archives? What is the purpose and meaning behind your tasks? Some projects have a more obvious and outward-facing purpose, but it can be difficult to find meaning in routine tasks. Every tasks plays a part in the bigger picture, no task is just busy work.

Staying motivated can be difficult, but if you can master this skill, you’ll open doors for incredible career and personal growth and as always January is a great time to start something new and that includes ways of working. Good luck and lets get back to work!
