Time to do some spring cleaning
Spring is in full bloom and with more of us working from home for the foreseeable, then maybe its time to start cleaning the home office (kitchen table) and the rest of the house in a spring clean? Here are five tips on cleaning your workspace to get you started.
Divide and Organise
What are you hoping to achieve with your workspace, how much space do you need and what items do you always need at arm’s length? If you are staring at something that you don’t use daily, then its time to find it a new home and free up desk clutter. Divide your desk into organised sections based on the most common tasks you work on.
Everyone Has a Junk Drawer
Okay we all have at least one drawer in the office or at home that is full of all the stuff we know we will eventually need but never do. Make today the day that you clean it out, organise the items that are worth keeping and finally say goodbye to the cables, pens and looses broken paper clips that you know you will not ever need.
Streamline Your Desktop Icons
We get it, sometimes it is faster to just put something on the desktop but an organised desktop can lead to organised workflow. Start and finish each day with five minutes of making sure your desktop is free of old files or that important documents are put into correct folders, it will help significantly when you are asked for said file 12 months from now and can actually find it easily.
Disinfect Regularly
Current events have shown us that it really is a worthwhile task to disinfect your mouse, keyboard, and desk regularly. Anything that can be done to help slow down infections or protect yourself should become common practice once life goes back to the new normal. This new habit will also force you to tidy up loose papers and lingering rubbish.
Happy Items
Do not underestimate the desk items that make you happy, this can be pictures of your family, pets or even a pop culture figure/toy. If it makes you happy then include it on your desk. Refresh them regularly with seasonal photos so that your desk can start to reflect your current mood and time of year.
We hope this helps give you the motivation and ideas that you can implement at the home office or keep on file for when this lockdown ends.
