5 Tips For Improving Employee Wellbeing

When we’re talking about employee wellbeing, we are referring to the impact your job has on your overall health and happiness. Employee wellbeing is so important to a business especially in 2021 where just about everyone is feeling the strain. Invest in your team with these 5 tips to improve employee wellbeing.

1: Make Hybrid Working the Norm

Before March of 2019 Low Cost Office was 100% office based. Almost overnight (with a few small hiccups) we became a remote only work place. Now we offer staff a hybrid model and we’ve seen an increase in productivity, happier staff which leads to happier customers and better employee retention.

Offering your employees the option to work remotely, even just some of the time, and creating a hybrid working policy gives them the opportunity to take their schedule and working practices into their own hands.

Give employees the choice to choose between working in the office and home. The hybrid working model allows for flexibility and helps employees feel they have the choice to work where best suits them and the type of work they’re doing.

2:Team Social Events

Encouraging your staff and employees to build relationships that go beyond purely work interactions is vital especially with the increase of working from home and remote working, as there can often feel like a disconnect between office workers and remote workers. Work Socials might be the only time some staff get to see others face to face or in a non-task environment.

It doesn’t always have to be in a bar and can include those who can only make the event if its remote. Some ideas include online or face to face Friday Afternoon Quiz where you take the last hour of the working week to put tools down and have a laugh. How about an online or face to face cooking class? It can be a bit of fun and you get a nice meal out of it at the end (hopefully).

Feeling connected to the people you spend a sizeable part of your day with is key to team wellbeing.

3: Make Recognising and Praising Staff Fundamental to Company Culture

You’d be surprised how far a bit of praise and recognition can go towards wellbeing. Staff want to feel wanted, they want to know their efforts are being noticed by team leads and top management. It’s one of the easiest ways of improving team wellbeing, by simply recognising the good work they are doing, and actively thanking them for a job well done.

In fact, a study by SHRM found that 90% of employees questioned said their work had meaning and purpose when they feel that their management care and 70% felt praise/recognition at work made them happier at home.

4: Encourage staff to consider their physical health

Physical health has such a huge impact on a person’s sense of wellbeing and happiness, and you should always encourage your staff to take that into account. Even if you are already someone who is active and involved in fitness, if you spend the majority of your day sitting then you are doing damage to your body physically and mentally.

We’re not saying take the team for morning hikes but encouraging more movement in their working day is a good start. Like walking meetings or the introduction of height adjustable desks.

5:Offer benefits to support wellbeing

Investing a little and paying for some additional benefits for your employees can have a seriously big impact on staff wellbeing. 2020/21 has taken its toll on a lot of people at work or at home. To get the best out of someone you need to invest in them and then can mean anything from providing healthy snacks in the office, to discount access to gyms and private CBT. There are options for every budget, find an organisation that will offer your team a company discount.

A company can only thrive with productive, hard working and committed staff. They are the company’s greatest asset which is why the wellbeing of staff is so important. Invest in them and they will invest in the company.
