How to Become a Better Worker

How to Become a Better Worker

September is Self-Improvement month making it a great time to reflect on how to become a better worker too. Let’s begin the month with a list of simple thing you can start today that will have a positive effect on your job.

Always Learning

You’ve been using Microsoft Works or the Adodbe Suite for years; you know everything you need to know, right? Software is always changing, new versions are released or you may be using a feature incorrectly. It’s always good to do a refresher course on something you think you are familiar with; you might be surprised at the new techniques you may learn.

Upskilling in today’s job market is so important. You will always be learning in whatever career you are in, if you would like to dip your toe into a new skill then why not try https://www.udemy.com/ An online learning platform that has a course for nearly everything you could want.

Take on New Roles

Don’t be afraid of extra responsibility. Take on any new roles (provided it is manageable with your current workload) this will show leadership that you are keen to improve and are willing to try new things. The more you do for a company the more valuable you are to them.

Give and Get Feedback

Be that person in the office who is always open to giving feedback and accept feedback. If it’s good or bad the more a team collaborates, the more likely they are to succeed. Everyone has ideas. The more communication in the office the more likely these ideas will develop and become profitable.

Acknowledge Failure

Have you run a campaign or had an idea at work that didn’t work out? We’ve all been there, the key is to acknowledge it as a failure and more importantly find out why it was a failure. Once you know why it failed it is much easier to improve upon it. It’s only truly a failure if you didn’t learn anything from it. Take your new knowledge and apply it to the next project in the confidence that you can avoid past mistakes.

Stop Procrastinating

Save reading articles like this for when you are on lunch or at home. A five minute break on social media can often turn into thirty minutes of lost time. Try turning off your personal phone or every time you think of opening Facebook you instead remind yourself of that task you’ve being putting off all week.

Elimination or Automation

Are you continuously doing the same reports, is it taking a lot of time with little to no return? Now is the time to look at what it is you are doing and seeing is there a way to either eliminate some items or see if there is a way to automate sections in order to cut down on wasted time. Another key point to recurring tasks such as reporting; who needs them, why do they need them and are they looking at them? Try and find a way to get the key information to the required parties, sometimes too much information is a bad thing. If repetitive reporting isn’t being used then why is it taking up your day?

Make Better To Do Lists

End each day with checking you’re to do list and start each day with a review of this list. Some companies will track this work via software but a personal list can help you achieve the smaller goals that you wish to achieve each day in an effort to create a better more efficient workplace for you.

What do you think of our advice? Got any suggestions for us? Every job is different and no office is the same, take this information and uses it to the best of your situation.
