Staying Cool in the Office this Summer
The Irish Summer has finally started, let’s hope this one will last longer than a week. If you happen to be stuck in the office looking out at that fine weather (like we are) then here are our 10 tips to staying cool.
- Dress Code: Will HR let you wear shorts and T-shirts temporarily? It might look less professional but a comfortable employee is a productive one.
- Stay Hydrated: Keep drinking small amounts of iced water throughout the day. Dehydration can creep up on you and impact on productivity before you even realise it.
- Work in the shade: Pull the blinds down, its lovely out it really is but your windows could be cooking the office. Blocking the sun as best you can will help the workspace stay a little cooler.
- Open all windows at the start of the day: take advantage of the cool morning air. It can get uncomfortable hot later in the day so make the most of fresh cool air getting into the office.
- Regular Breaks: If you can’t stand the heat…get out of the office. Even if it is only for a moment, take some cool water and go to a spot in the workplace that isn’t sweltering!
- Fans: get a personal fan for your desk even a little clip on fan can make a big difference without causing too much noise.
- Electrics: how many of your office are currently working from home yet the lights are on, screens are powered on and printers are ready for action. Plug out any unused electrical devices as they will generate a small bit of unwanted heat.
- Frozen Fruit: Grab a bag of frozen fruit; throw it in a blender and BAM, you’ve just created a healthy refreshing cold smoothie.
- Cool Pules points: Dabbing cold water or holding an ice cube on your pulse points will provide immediate relief from the heat, and will help to cool your entire body.
- Cooling Spray: Keep this away from any electrical devices but a cooling spray is perfect for waking up dull, tired skin and staying cool in the office.
And remember, if you are working or going outside then you should always wear sunscreen.
